The Future of Cannabis Investing

Source: Tom Beck for Streetwise Reports  (2/3/17) The cannabis industry attained new highs in 2016, paving the way for some big changes this year, says Tom Beck, senior editor of Portfolio Wealth Global. New Frontier Data Four states in the U.S. voted in favor of legalization on November 8th of 2016, and it was expected that the cannabis market would rake in over $6.7 billion from the U.S. alone in 2016. It only gets better from here. For starters, sales of cannabis are set to rise to $22.8 billion in the U.S. by 2020. The graph above captures the rollicking growth rate of the market. Portfolio Wealth Global sees this as a dam bursting, but the magnitude of the moment is understated—that’s because even top hedge fund managers still don’t have a handle on whom the top dogs are, and that’s exactly the opportunity we see in building strong relationships with … Continue reading

Legalized Marijuana Would Be Eliminated Under A Christie Presidency

POSTED BY: CANNABISACTIVISTNETWORK JUNE 7, 2015 Gov. Chris Christie vowed Sunday to eliminate legalized marijuana in states like Colorado and Washington if he’s elected president. The governor, speaking on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” said his administration would use federal rules that outlaw marijuana to clamp down on states that legalized recreational pot use. “Yes sir,” Christie told host John Dickerson when asked whether he’d go after Colorado and Washington. “If you were president would you return the federal prosecutions in the states of Colorado, Washington states?” Dickerson asked. “Yes,” Christie said. “So, if somebody’s enjoying that now in their state, if you’re president, that’s getting turned off?” Dickerson continued. “Correct,” Christie responded. Colorado and Washington have legalized recreational marijuana, which is still outlawed under federal rules. However, President Obama’s administration hasn’t penalized the states nor forced them to role back the initiatives that voters in those states approved. Christie has … Continue reading

These 8 States Are Likely Next for Marijuana Legalization

Andrew Meola Mar 22, 2015 9:08 AM EDT  NEW YORK (MainStreet) — The times, they are a-changin’ for marijuana, as longtime prohibition laws risk going up in flames. The New York Times advocated for legalization of pot at a national level last year, arguing that the “social costs” of the current prohibition laws are vast — unreasonable prison sentences, a judicial system skewed against minority groups and the disadvantaged, the turning of law-abiding citizens into petty criminals. While the road to legalizing and regulating marijuana use will not be one without challenge, The Times (the first mainstream media outlet to issue an opinion so strong) remains optimistic that creating the systems for the “manufacture, sale and marketing” of the drug are solvable problems. Already, calls for legalization are growing louder, albeit at a state-by-state level rather than federal. Colorado was the first state to pass and implement legal marijuana laws with its first sale on … Continue reading

During the digital Q&A session, Snowden was asked a multitude of questions ranging from his most shocking discoveries about NSA practices to living the life of an expatriate in Russia. Although the topic of marijuana’s forward progression into the American mainstream was not brought up directly, a question about the 2016 … Continue reading
